Founded in 1993 and registered in Tianjin Hi-tech Industrial Park, Tianjin Institute of Life Sciences Applications is a knowledge-intensified hi-tech enterprise gathering many experts and professors from 5 colleges including Tianjin Medical University, Nankai University, Tianjin University and the Academy of Military Medical Sciences. The institute boasts abundant technical strength for its research staff with senior or higher professional titles amounting to 25% of all employees. As a member of National Natural Sciences Foundation of China and a project undertaker under Ministry of Health, the institute dedicates to the “life sciences”, the forefront of modern sciences, by integrating with medical science, chemistry, biology, physics, free radical medicine and enzymology. After over ten years, the institute has successfully developed 8 projects, of which six have been transferred and 5 invention patents have been awarded, and accordingly become the first one in China to cover the shortage of internationally advanced achievements under the authentication of Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Commission.
At present, the institute focuses on the research and development of biological extraction and has developed a worldwide state-of-the-art superoxide dismutase (SOD) and LA-SOD production line since 1996. The products are of natural high active substance extracted by physical methods without any chemical residual. Modified SOD has the advantages of an extended half-life period, a higher thermal stability and a longer storage life (not deactivated for 3.2 years at 25℃). The process route, quality and enzyme activity are tested by authorities and authenticated by experts to have ranked a leading position in China.
After 2-year preparation, the institute embarked on the porphyrin iron extraction program by using advanced enzyme engineering in 2004. Today, an advanced production line on the program has been established and put into operation, which is more excellent than any extraction process in the past.
